Day 17 The blessings of paying attention

Matt 13 The parable of the sower.
V11 " the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you but not to them...."
v16&17 But blessed are your eyes because they see and your ears because they hear....many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
What was Jesus getting at?

The context of the parable was in Matt12:46ff".... Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother" Putting the Word to Work.

The parable tells us what our decibel and accuity levels should yield. A good crop.

When we see and hear the will of the Father, which is the seed of the Word of God and then put it to work in our lives the deeper it grows the longer the results are seen.

You've heard the expression "try try and try again", and "the third time's a charm", "third time lucky" those sort of things.

Here we have a parable that gives us hope to dig deeper, in the words of Hosea 10: 12 “Break up your fallow ground” If we didn’t put the word to put the word to work in our lives the first time, or the word got chocked with the cares and pleasures of this world (Luke 8:14) as we struggled between looking up and looking at our feet. Then the next time round we know what works for us and what doesn’t. Isaiah 28:9&10 talks about learning precept upon precept, line upon line and sometimes that’s the way it is with us.

Be encouraged, God teaches us and guides us we need to make room for a good crop to be produced in our lives. Siobhan

  1. It is interesting that that scriptures touched your heart today Siobhan The context of the parable was in Matt. 12:46ff".... Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother" A sister in the Lord we both know and love Cathy we were sharing about this just this morning. It restores peace to my soul to read this from different occasions or for a sweet sister to remind me. Plant the seed of the word of God to our earthly families, through reading the word and doing the word. Pray for the Holy spirit to reveal Himself to them. The rest is up to our Heavenly Father. I'm so very thankful for the Godly friends who keep reminding me. We cannot even plant unless the Lord gives up His strength and Love to live as His word says to live. Diana

  2. God's command was that Jacob returned to Bethel 31:13 and then to his home where Isaac still lived, which was in Hebron 35:27. Instead he tarred first at Succoth and then settled near Shechem. He purchased some property la la!!...It's obvious that Jacob wasn't in a hurry to obey God and return to Bethel. It is great to set up a altar and give a public witness to his faith in the Lord, but sacrifice is no substitude for obedience (1 Sam 15:22) The name he gave the altar ("God, the God of Israel") so he claimed his new name "Israel," but he was not living up to what his name implied. Because while he took his time his daughter Dinah was raped and two of his sons became murderers. It was a expensive detour. The name of the Lord isn't mentioned once in this chapter, and the wisdom of the Lord is surely absent as well. When we disobey the Lord, we put ourselves and our loved ones in danger of what the devil desides to throw at us. We are surely not walking in a safe path the destination the Lord desires for us. When we are in the will of the Lord whatever comes our way has gone before our Heavenly Father and we should not have to fear or get creative as to the best way for us work in our own flesh to manipulate the circumstances before us. 3. Very good observation Diana, I looked up where the two cities were located and here is the atlas url
    http://bibleatlas.org/full/hebron.htm
http://bibleatlas.org/full/succoth_2.htm. There are two towns called succoth one near the Mediterranean and the other in the land of Canaan. So which one is it?
But if we look at where Shechem is located it's nearer Hebron and Jacob may not have been disobedient and therefore the cause of rape of Dinah is still with sinful men not the tardiness of Jacob.

BTW The agreement between Esau and Jacob was to meet in Seir Gen33 which is Esau's land. waited to take care of the children and animals, (no mention of the wives!)
So maybe Jacob, while he is probably relieved that the meeting went well with Esau, was indeed going to Isaac home in Hebron.

The urls are great tools to try and figure out where people lived, loved and died. Siobhan
