Ch 6 V10.."I would still have this consolation—my joy in unrelenting pain— that I had not denied the words of the Holy One".
Ch 19v 25 "I know that my Redeemer lives,and that in the end he will stand upon the earth".
Ch 23:10
"But he knows the way that I take;when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
My feet have closely followed his steps;I have kept to his way without turning aside.
I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread".
Ch 31 is the culmination of Job's understanding of his heart, and behavior toward his fellow man and God. There are about 15 scenarios mentioned in this chapter, that give us insight into areas of obedience and discipleship. Siobhan

The descriptive wording is beautiful in Job. It forms such a clear picture of what is happening. I like Job's phrase "I made a covenant with mine eyes:"(31:1). Every part of our body belongs to God and we must use it as his tool and not our own.
ReplyDeleteToday's reading deals with Elihu. My sister recently pointed out to me that God does not rebuke Elihu. The other three are rebuked and told to ask Job to pray for them (future reading) but no mention is made of Elihu. I wonder if that means that all he has to say is accurate.

I wondered that too, but I haven't read him yet today. Also, are there certain aspects that God is interested with that are more important than others and that Elihu got them right. Just more to ponder....Siobhan pondering!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about Elihu and I don't think anything he said lied on God. Neither did he accuse Job. I think in all of his sayings he just stated what he understood about God while the others accused Job and claimed that God was against him by some hidden sin. Elihu just emphasized the nature of God not taking sides. Those are my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI heard someone say Whoever attempts to explain and defend the Almighty must have the humble heart of a worshiper: for knowledge puffs up, but love builds up 1 Cor. 8:1 Elihu explained and defended the justice of God. However I do not see him demonstrating saying that God is also loving and gracious.Elihu he ended this part of the address with a terrible insight, that he was a rebellious and spoke proudly against God. Clapping the hands is today a sign of approval. but in that day it was a gesture of mockery and contempt and then he went on to say that Job needed more testing 34:36 perhaps that would bring him to his senses. I do see wrong judgement coming from Elihu Diana

(10) “So listen to me, you men of understanding. Far be it from God to do evil, from the Almighty to do wrong.
(11) He repays a man for what he has done; he brings upon him what his conduct deserves.
(12) It is unthinkable that God would do wrong, that the Almighty would pervert justice.
What does Elihu say? He says the exact same thing that Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar has said that God repays a man for what he does; therefore, if Job’s flocks and herds have been killed or carried away or his children killed, well then, he must have deserved it, for God repays a man for what he does. Elihu joins in to the group that God does not smite unless there is a secret sin. The concept of the “righteous sufferer” is off their radar scope.
