Lev 2:13 The book beings with how the offerings are to be conducted. "Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings".
Exodus 30:34-36 Incense i.e. Our prayers, are to be salty, pure and sacred.
This give us context for Jesus's teaching about us being the salt of the earth.
Everything we offer YHWH, the work of our hands and the thoughts of our hearts are to be salted with the "salt of the covenant"
When I use salt I shake it on a meal, or use it in a marinade that lets the salt soak into the meat before roasting.
By reading the Scriptures we shake it on ourselves, and when we soak ourselves in the word it preserves our very lives.
