2 Cor 1:11 ..."in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes".
Paul urged the church to forgive the guy who was under church discipline.
6 "The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient. 7 Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him".
We may talk/sing/dance about spiritual warfare, get all hot and bothered about the needs in the world when forgiving a brother is a better measurement of being battle-ready.

You are right. It is a lot more difficult to forgive up close and personal than it is to read about it in scripture.
